Media coverage of the VAFA has been nominated in three categories for the AFL Victoria Community Football Media Awards to be held on Friday 16th November at Etihad Stadium.
The nominees for the awards lunch were announced last week with the VAFA nominated in three of the 10 categories.
Leading the way is Inner FM with their Match of the Day team nominated for Best Match Day coverage of a community football competition.
Inner FM scooped another nomination for their Saturday morning VAFA Footy Show hosted by Ken Petrucco as the Best Radio Football Show.
The third nomination was for The Amateur Footballer’s Premier B scribe Di Langton for Best Football Column.
Inner FM’s doyen of VAFA coverage Ken Petrucco was thrilled to be nominated and is looking forward to Friday.
“It was a long season, our biggest yet and it is great that we get recognition like this, there are close to 20 people who all volunteer their time to do the broadcasts over the course of the year so its wonderful to be highlighted like this” said Petrucco.
Di Langton was also very excited to be nominated for her weekly insights into the world of Premier B.
The VAFA had 33 matches covered by Inner FM’s Match of the Day team in 2012. The coverage included 27 Premier Section home and away games plus all their finals as well as the Premier B Preliminary and Grand Finals plus the VAFA U23 versus Western Australia match at Sportscover Arena.
Below you can listen to some highlights of the last three games of the year plus the call of the mark of the year that wasn’t.
The highlights include the Premier Preliminary Final when Old Xavs came back to beat De La Salle; The Premier B Grand Final when Uni Blacks triumphed over Beaumaris; and the Premier Grand Final when Collegians claimed back to back titles in a heart-stopper against Old Xavs.
