Hawthorn Amateur Football Club XVIII team, the Hawthorn Spartans had a stall at the Antipodes Festival, Lonsdale Street, Melbourne last weekend.
Over 35,000 people attend this festival each year and the Hawthorn Spartans were the only Australian rules football team represented as they were last year.
The event is a fantastic way to promote Australian rules football and a great advertisement for the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
The Spartans’ stall was handing out showbags including offers from their sponsors and Auskick footballs which were a hit with the kids.
The stall also had two handball targets available for all to display their skills including our new Victorian Premier Denis Napthine who had a go at the target.
All boys and girls, mums and dads, came along and enjoyed our stall and it was a great day and turnout considering the conditions on Saturday.
The Spartans will suit up in the Club XVIII competition again this year after the heartache of two straight Grand Final defeats in the past two seasons they believe they can go one better this year.
