Old Xaverians have broken with tradition and signed dual coaches for the first time in their history. As the football world first struggled with the idea of co-captains, again there has been a scepticism to co-coaches.
However that scepticism has changed off the back of the success that Collegians have had with the model winning the last two Premier premierships with Simon Arnott and Mark Hibbins as co-coaches.
For Old Xaverians it was a case of back to the future, appointing former two time premiership coach Nick Bourke and to join him as co-coach Dom Berry who incidentally played under Bourke in one of those two premierships.
Old Xaverians have had a splendid pre-season, capped off by a big practice match win over EFL Division 1 premiers Balwyn last Saturday and will figure in most peoples calculations for the four again this year.
VAFA TV went down to Old Xaverians pre-season training to talk to the coaches about their appointment, how they will manage the role together and their preparations for today’s round 1 game against De La Salle.
