This week the VAFA recognises our Umpires – The VAFA’s fairest team for Umpires Round. Last night on 1116 SEN’s Bush and the Burbs, General Manager of Umpiring Brian ‘Benny’ Goodman spoke to Mark Fine and Paul Daffey about umpiring and the fun you can have when in the ‘best seat in the house’.
Benny waxed lyrical with the boys about the quality of umpires we have in the VAFA, singing the praises of all our clubs in their welcoming nature to all the umpires.
Benny made special mention of Williamstown CYMS who initiated the orriginal Umpire Appreciation round in the VAFA a fews year back and what a great initiative that has proven to be.
This weekend the VAFA encourages all players, club officials and spectators to dip their hats to acknowledge the great work of our umpires because without them we cannot play the game we love in a fair and respectful environment.
Have a listen to Benny’s interview last night and if you see him this week try to remind him as Finey did, that he’s a legend!
