The Big V Senior squad for the match against the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country has been trimmed to 30 ahead of their final two training sessions this week.
There have been some forced changes to the initial squad and the selectors jobs been made more difficult due to the significant number of pas Big V players who are unavailable for various reasons.
Big V regulars Jack Bull, James Rimington, Josh Madden, Nick Sautner, Shane Neaves, Daniel Strachan and Hiwad Shakhaib were all unavailable for selection, whilst lively forwards Sam Pickett, Andrew Merrington, Nick Ries and Nick Smith were also unavailable, along with in form midfielders Cam Richardson, Nick Roberts, Nick Jamieson and Steven Salopek.
Accordingly the senior team has a mixture of experience and a new look and feel to it with the most in form players selected.
The squad of 30 trains Tuesday and Thursday evening at Sportscover Arena with a final 22 to be named and presented with their jumpers at a Thursday night dinner after training.
The chosen 22 will then have a light training session on the Junction Oval on Saturday morning.
The Premier B – Division 4 squad and the U19 squad are also training on Tuesday and Thursday night and will be trimmed accordingly after tonight’s training session.
A huge day of representative football is in store this Sunday 7th July at the Junction Oval. The VAFA U19s play the best U19 talent from the AFL Victoria Country combined leagues at 11.15am.
At the same time, the Premier B – Division 4 VAFA side take on the AFL Victoria Country Number 2 team next door at Harry Trott Oval (Collegians home ground).
Then everyone will converge on the Junction Oval for the big one at 2pm when the VAFA Senior side try to retain the Brian Molony Cup against the AFL Victoria Country Number 1 team.
