SEN’s weekly Bush and the Burbs segment played host to both Simon Lethlean and Peter Knights ahead of the VAFA v AFL Vic Country match on Sunday. The two senior coaches spoke with Mark Fine and Paul Daffey about the selection of their sides and the process of finding the best talent to pull on the Big V.
With a weather forecast of a few showers over the weekend, both coaches were optimistic that the weather wouldn’t really play a part in determining the winner.
In what could perhaps be conceived as the first mind game between the two sides, AFL Vic Country coach Peter Knights was caught out when asked about the opinion of VAFA coach Simon Lethlean regarding selection.
“Simon? Who are we talking about, who is Simon?” said Knights.
Lethlean had commented that the AFL Vic Country should have a team with more depth as they get to pick the best two to three players from the top 10-15 leagues, whilst the VAFA side is selected primarily from 1-2 leagues or in Amateur language, sections.
To be fair to Knights he had been cut off earlier in the interview and perhaps didn’t hear Leathlean’s comments or realise that he had been speaking just prior.
You can listen to the full interview of both coaches below.
The match is set to be a ripper with the senior sides to go head to head from 2pm at the Junction Oval on Sunday.
The VAFA Premier B- Division 4 and the U19 teams both train at Sportscover Arena tonight with final selections and captains to be announced at a dinner with the VAFA Board after training.
