The VAFA have retained the Brian Molony Cup in a another thrilling finish to their match against the AFL Victoria Country.
The VAFA were lead by four goals from Brendan Goss and stellar performances by Uni Blues duo Peter Summers and Ross Young.
The VAFA won 11.16.82 to AFL Vic Country 11.13.79.
The three point win was dampened slightly by a late knee injury to Old Carey’s Cameron Howat, who had been one of the Big V’s best to that point.
The Country team challenged lated and scores were locked at 79 each for much of the final term, until a flurry of late VAFA behinds saw them hold on for a memorable win.
The win for the VAFA levels the series at 7 wins each.
Earlier in the day the VAFA U19s defeated the Country U19s by four points, whilst the VAFA Premier B – Division 4 team fell just one point short of the AFL Victoria Country team.
