ROUND 12: DRAWING ON A NEW VOICE

By VAFA · July 13, 2013
ROUND 12: DRAWING ON A NEW VOICE

It was great to have club football back this week and in Premier Section two teams were taking final instructions from a different voice for the first time this year.
The change in coach produced a win and a draw, with Beaumaris scoring a point on the siren at University Oval to tie their match up with Blacks. Beauy kicked six straight in the opener to stun the locals before Blacks arrested control. But The Sharks under Tonkin led by 2 points at the final change and secured what could be a valuable draw.
St Bernard’s recorded back to back wins (albeit under different coaches) with a thumping 69 point win over Old Carey at Bulleen. We can now say that the Panthers time in Premier Section will conclude at the end of this year. The returning Andrew Merrington kicked five goals for St Bernard’s and the win skips them a game and decent amount of percentage clear of 9th place.
University Blues occupy that spot at present and with losses like the one they had today against Old Xaverians by 77 points. Matt Handley booted 8 goals and ruckman Sam Tagliabue 4 as Xavs now have a strangle hold on top spot whilst Blues will need to win at least twice times from their final six matches to avoid joining Old Carey in Premier B.
Another tense match was played out at Camberwell Sports Ground where Old Scotch kept their finals aspirations alive, defeating De La Salle by 20 points. Passador kicked five goals for the Cardinals who kicked clear of De La only in the final 10 minutes of play. De La hang on to fourth spot from Scotch on percentage only.
St Bedes/Mentone Tigers continue to wrap up credible wins and loom as a potential top two side. Their victory over Collegians by 44 points leaves the Tigers just two points off second.
In Premier B the battle of second v third was and anticlimax as Old Brighton trounced Old Melburnians by 95 points. Michael Dewar booted five goals for the home side who now take over second spot.
Caulfield Grammarians had a fourth win of the year to skip two games clear of the relegation places. The Fields beat Werribee by 30 points thanks to five goals from Declan Reilley.
Old Trinity ground out a tough win against Fitzroy at home. The low scoring match saw top side Old Trinity prevail by 35 points against a gallant Fitzroy.
Parkdale Vultures were no match for St Kevin’s second time round. Karageorgiou’s five goals were supported by countless other scoring avenues, something that Vulture Matt Boland (7 goals) didn’t have to help him.SKOBs running out 74 point winners to avenge their earlier season loss to this opposition.
AJAX defeated Old Haileyburians by 25 points to re-ignite their finals aspirations.  The Jackas move to fifth but will need to keep winning if they want to play finals in 2013.
In Premier C Mazenod continued on their merry way with a dominant 40 point win at Marcellin. Mazenod are looking irresistible at present and are now three games clear in a double chance position.
Monash Blues returned to the winners list defeating Banyule by 46 points at the University. The win sees Monash Blues maintain a two game buffer from third placed Old Ivanhoe.
Adrian Del Monte and Nick Butler both kicked bags of five goals to help Old Ivanhoe hold out a spirited Oakleigh by 29 points at the Pine Lodge.
PEGS defeated NOBs-St Pat’s by 10 goals out at Essendon. The big Bombers win was important for percentage building but they still sit 5th waiting for a slip up from those above them.
Peninsula beat Old Camberwell by a point in a vital win for the Pirates. The Pirates led by that same margin at half time and were good enough to come from behind in the final term to get the win that lifts them two games clear of the Wellers and four games clear from the relegation spots to all but secure Premier C football next year.
