VALE TO TWO BIG V AND CLUB GREATS

VALE TO TWO BIG V AND CLUB GREATS

The VAFA, the Banyule Football Club and the Ormond club are mourning the sad passing of two gentlemen that wore both their respective club colours and the Big V with pride.
Banyule’s David Williams and Ormond’s Jack Stock have both passed away in the last fortnight and our thoughts go out to the families of both men and the football clubs that they were both a significant part of.
Below are details on both David and Jack, each wore the Big V with pride and contributed so much to the their football club.
Vale – David Wiliams
It is with great sadness to inform that the Banyule Amateur Football Club family have lost another true champion and friend Dave Williams who passed away suddenly two Saturday’s ago.
A nicer guy you will never meet, a true champion who was loved by all who had the pleasure and honour to know him.
Dave “ Pigga” Williams began at Banyule in the Under 19’s in 1985, he made his way into the senior team in 1986 until his retirement in 2004. The Big Rig was an awesome footballer who made others stand tall. His determination and heart was amazing considering he was 6ft 4 and 125kg.
Just to have been able to share a beer with Pigga, would have been enough to walk away knowing just what a gentleman, and great bloke he truly was.  His vision and memory will always be present, and his legacy and commitment will flow through the veins of every BAFC player into the future.
Pigga often rucked the entire day and always made it to every contest. He came out of retirement in 2009 to play a season in the Club 18 with a lot of his ex teammates. That season he led the team to a preliminary where he kicked goal of the year in that final, which, was the highlight of his fantastic career.
The Banyule Amateur Football club forever salutes our champion, the inspirational big fella who donned the #55!
We extend our sincere thoughts and condolences to Dave’s Family – Wife Simone; children Rory, Emmerson,Teagan & MacKenzie, Siblings Bluey, Neal, Kevin and Janet.
David Williams stats:
312 Games
3 time club best and fairest winner
6 time “Poppa Bear” winner – voted on by the older supporters of the club
VAFA Best and fairest in D1 in 2001
Member of 2001 and 2004 Grand Final Teams
Inducted as one of 10 Banyule Legends in 2005
VAFA Representative – 1989, 2001

Vale – Jack Stock (Pictured above)
It is with great regret that we must inform the Ormond Community of the passing of one of our all time greats Mr Jack Stock.
After two years at Melbourne F.C. 1944-1945 Jack played over 200 games at Ormond 1946 – 1957 playing in our first A Grade Premiership side in 1950 and winning the Club Best & Fairest award twice in 1952 & 1954.
He was Club Vice Captain in 1948 and Club Captain in 1953 and represented Victoria in 1947, 1948 & 1952 and was chosen in the Australian Amateur side in 1950.
Jack served on the OAFC Committee 1952-1971 as a VAFA Delegate, Vice President and Senior Vice President and was awarded Life Membership in 1956.
He took over as Senior Coach in 1962 & 1967 and was also Under 17 Coach 1964- 1973.
Stocky’s service and legacy to Ormond has been absolutely immense and he was deservedly bestowed with OAFC Legend Status at the 2011 Past & Present Players Dinner (viewhttp://oafc.com.au/media/gallery3/index.php/Season-2011/Social—Past-Present-Players-Evening)
Jack’s son Rod and son in law Bobby Connolly are also past OAFC players.
The Ormond Amateur Football Club conveys it’s deepest and sincere sympathy to Rod, Jack’s daughter Elaine and their extended families.
Jack’s funeral is to be held at “Bunurong Memorial Park” 790 Frankston Dandenong Road, Dandenong South next Monday 22 July commencing at 12 Noon.
