ROUND 13 – UNLUCKY FOR SOME

Rather than predictable headlines about the weather and ducks, let’s get straight to the point. Round 13 is a bit like a Saturday of a golf tournament, it’s moving day. Those with hopes of a double chance, making finals or avoiding relegation had to do something today.
In Premier Section Uni Blacks bounced back from a flat fortnight to defeat De La Salle at the Dairy Bell by 25 points. The Blacks’ bigger bodies were too much for De La’s mosquito fleet. 
At Shark Park, Beaumaris hosted section table toppers Old Xavs and in trying conditions it was the visitors who prevailed by 21 points. Xavs sit a game clear on top from Blacks.
Third placed St Bedes/Mentone Tigers kept up the pressure on the top two with a solid 21 point win at bottom side Old Carey. 
University Blues threw a spanner in the works of the relegation battle as they defeated Collegians by 17 points at a soggy University Oval. 
Old Scotch and St Bernard’s played out another terrific contest with St Bernard’s getting back to back wins defeating the Cardinals by 26 points. 
In Premier B Parkdale Vultures have upset AJAX at home by 3 points to breathe life into their season and open up the race to remain in the section. 
Anything the Vultures can do, so too can Fitzroy. The visiting Roys ran out 21 point winners over Old Haileyburians. The win keeps the Roys (8th) just ahead of the Vultures who remain in 9th spot. 
At the Junction Oval, Old Melburnians bounced back from a horror show the previous week to defeat top side Old Trinity by 16 points. 
At Soldiers Reserve, St Kevin’s (4th) moved two games clear of the chasing pack seeking a Premier B finals campaign. SKOBs defeated Werribee by 23 points to all but consign the Tigers to relegation. Harrington was sensational in a losing side, kicking five goals.
Caulfield hosted Old Brighton and the result was a 10 goal loss for the Fields. Daniel Anthony’s (4 goals) was one of the main contributors for the Tonners, who held Caulfield goalless for the first half.
In Premier C, there were upsets and surprise results everywhere. Oakleigh trumped Banyule at the Bear cave by 44 points. The win puts the Krushers level with the Bears on three wins each. The final five weeks set to determine which section each side will play in 2014.
In an upset of sorts, Marcellin beat Monash Blues in the wet by 16 points. The Eagles skipped out to a lead early but Monash could never peg them back, the Ashes held goalless in the second half. 
In the clash of top versus bottom Mazenod showed their clash to defeat NOBs-St Pat’s by 54 points. 
At Peninsula School, it was the visiting Old Ivanhoe that were victorious over Peninsula by 10 points. The Hoers stay third but are now just a game behind Monash. 
Old Camberwell couldn’t use their home ground advantage agains PEGS in wet conditions at Gordon Barnard. PEGS get up by 14 points.
