ROUND 16 DIVISIONS WRAP

The Division 1 ladder is almost set. MHSOB now have to win both matches and hope that either Bulleen Temp or Old Mentonians drop both if they are to get out of a trip to Division 2. The Unicorns percentage is terrible and Old Geelong did it no favours today, shaving a few points off it, recording a 36 point win. 
To be fair Old Mentonians percentage took a bit of a going over courtesy of Ormond’s 57 point win. Nevertheless the Panthers have approximately 20% in hand on the Unicorns. 
Hampton Rovers bounced back with a win to defeat Bulleen Templestowe by 27 points at Boss James. 
Prahran Assumption now fall a game and percentage behind fourth spot thanks to their seven point loss to Williamstown CYMS, the CY’s remain third. 
Whitefriars re-enforced their own percentage with a 149 point home win over Glen Eira. Daou kicked nine goals and many others got in on the act too. 

In Division 2, Old Eltham bounced back as they brought Emmaus St Leos back to earth with a 42 point home win. The win guarantees the Turtles finals football. 
South Melbourne Districts have secured safety in the section for another year courtesy of they four point win at Ivanhoe. Although South Melbourne are only two games clear of the relegation places the two teams below them play each other next week. Ivanhoe is one of them, the other is Monash Gyphons who produced it when it mattered to defeat Old Paradians by 22 points. The Gyphons and Ivanhoe now playoff in a virtual relegation match next week. Both teams have five wins with Ivanhoe holding a 3% break on the Gryphons. 
St Johns had to win today to give the finals a shake, alas they couldn’t overcome a powerful Yarra Valley outfit. The Bushrangers got up by 19 points thanks to their seven goal to three final quarter. 
It’s worrying signs for St Mary’s Salesian who have now been thrashed twice in the space of a fortnight. Therry Penola and their spearheads (C. Bannister 7 and J. Bannister 5) put on a clinic for the home fans, handing the Saints a 79 point drubbing. 

The Division 3 finals race is still open as both Aquinas – 3 goal winners over Albert Park – and La Trobe Uni – 134 point winners over Old Westbourne won to leave them on level points (with Richmond Central) with two to play. The Uni hold 6th spot on percentage. The fact that it is now 11% would not have been lost on Old Westbourne who felt the full brunt of La Trobe and in particular Buddy McMeel’s 13 goals. 
UHS-VU record a 29 point win over a gallant Power House in Albert Park and St Francis Xavier won by 19 points over Elsternwick at home. The Wick’s loss saw them fall a game behind UHS-VU in second. 
Swinburne Uni (Lugg 6 goals) were 78 points better than South Mornington. The loss confirming that South Mornington will return to Division 4 a year after winning the Premiership in that section. 
Kew (Allman 6 and ‘Front Cover’ Brazzale 5 goals) defeated Richmond Central by 19 points. The Snakes are on shaky ground and need a win to secure a finals berth. 

Division 4 heavyweights Hawthorn gave Dragons a reminder as to how tough the VAFA can be crushing the newcomers by 130 points. Tremewen kicked 9 and White 5 goals as the Hawks made a mockery of their early season close contest against the same opposition. 
Point Cook gave Mt Lilydale a similar hiding. Although not as big as the Hawks win, a 95 point loss is still not nice to stomach when you have made a return trip from one side of Melbourne to another. 
North Brunswick showed they will be a real handful in the finals with a stoic 9 point win over neighbours West Brunswick. 
Likewise for the Northern Blues who fell just 2 goals short of Eley Park Sharks. 
Dan Penny kicked 9 goals as Box Hill North condemned Chadstone to a 65 point loss.
