The Club XVIII Grand Finals have been run and won with Old Xaverians claiming their 19th Premiership at this level in Section 1, Hawthorn winning their first at this level in Section 2 and Richmond Central claiming the Section 3 premiership.
In the early game, Eley Park Sharks matched it with Richmond Central for most of the first half before the Snakes kicked away in the second half to record a 59 point win. The final score was Richmond Central 15.7.97 to Eley Park Sharks 5.8.38.
The Best on Ground Medal went to the Central’s skipper Robert Nolan. Eley Park Sharks had some consolation as Nick Greenhalf won the section best and fairest.
In Section 2 Hawthorn jumped out of the gates early and never really looked back. Although Ormond rallied in the third quarter it was all the Spartans in the last as they saluted 13.15.93 to Ormond 8.7.55. It was redemption for Hawthorn who had been runner up on this day for the past two seasons.
The best on the ground award went to Hawthorn’s Andrew Stavridis whilst it was great that Emmaus St Leo’s gun Mark Peitryk made his way to Sportscover Arena to receive his competition best and fairest award.
In the final game of the day, Old Xaverians Crocs claimed another CLub XVIII premiership. Their storied history in this competition continues to grow as the Crocs were never troubled by St Bernards. The final margin was the largest of the day as Old Xaverians won 25.9.159 to St Bernards 5.6.36.
The King/Langrigan Medal for the best player on the ground wen to Old Xaverian Beau Rennalls.
The Stephen Mason Medal for the best player in the competition went to De La Salles’s Ben Oakley who was warmly received as he was presented with his medal from Stephen Mason.
