Barney comes to the club with a wealth of football experience, knowledge and expertise. Barney played in excess of 250 games with the Ormond Amateur Football Club and was Senior Captain for six seasons (1985-1989, 91) during which time the club won four A section premierships. He has been a VAFA State Representative on twelve occasions, twice as VAFA vice captain in 1987 and 1989.
Barney has been heavily involved in coaching amateur teams since 1994, culminating in winning several premierships and a significant number of finals appearances as the senior coach of Ormond, Hampton Rovers, St Bedes Mentone Tigers, Beaumaris and Old Brighton amateur football clubs.
On joining the club Barney said “I am looking forward to coaching Aquinas Old Collegians Football Club. Our club has a great opportunity to have a strong positive impact on the competition. I’m sure that with a high commitment level and a hard work ethic this will be achieved”.
Club President Barry Jess said “Barney brings to the Bloods tremendous enthusiasm for the game in general and amateur football in particular. We are located in the heartland of the powerful Eastern Football League. As an amateur football club we are very proud of the fact that we have been able to survive in this environment, for more than thirty years. With Barney coming on board as our senior coach, coupled with the playing list we will have next season, we will not only survive but we will thrive in the seasons to follow”.
Please join all at Aquinas in welcoming Barney and his family to The Bloods and we wish him every success.
