By VAFA · November 26, 2013
PREMIER B 2014 FIXTURE OPENING ROUNDS

The Premier B season commences on Saturday 5th April 2014 which is only 130 days away. With four new clubs in the section we take a look at the opening couple of weeks of the year and the matches to look forward to in 2014.
The relegated Old Carey will play against the promoted Mazenod for the first time since 2007 when both teams were in Premier C. Mazenod will play host in this Round 1 encounter which shapes as a tough initial test for the Panthers.
Premier Section’s other relegated club University Blues will start their year at home to Old Melburnians. Hopefully the new pavvy will be ready to open the season in a what shapes as a powerhouse opening day match up.
St Kevin’s will open their new pavilion at TH King Oval where they will commence their 2014 season with a visit from Fitzroy.
Reigning Premier C premiers Old Ivanhoe will start their return to Premier B with a home match against AJAX at Pine Lodge, whilst Old Haileybury start their campaign at home against Caulfield Grammarians.
Round 2 sees all sides that were away on opening day return to the comforts of home. Caulfield Grammarians host Old Ivanhoe and AJAX host Mazenod for their first encounters since 2011.
Old Melburnians and St Kevin’s will meet at the Junction Oval for the first time since their 1st Semi Final in the 2013 finals. Fitzroy’s first home game of the year will see them host Old Haileyburians.
The battle to see who has recovered best following their respective drops from Premier has Old Carey hosting University Blues on Dunshea Oval.
The Easter weekend will be a bye for all clubs before Round 3 kicks off on the ANZAC Day weekend on 26th April. That weekend the Premier C Grand Final re-match between Old Ivanhoe and Mazenod will take place at Chelsworth Park.
Other matches from Round 3 have Old Haileybury hosting AJAX, Uni Blues at home to Fitzroy, St Kevin’s visit Caulfield Grammarians and Old Carey at home to Old Melburnians.
There will be byes after Round 8 (for Queen’s Birthday), and after Round 12 (for the mid-season break).
