WHAT THE CLUBS SAID ABOUT LAST WEEK

WHAT THE CLUBS SAID ABOUT LAST WEEK

We have collaborated all the comments from some of the VAFA coaches in the aftermath of last round’s matches.
Anthony Rock (senior coach St Bernard’s) who defeated Collegians by 23 points:
“The guys have been fantastic and they are still learning the way we want to play, to come here and get a win is a great result.
It will be a great test for us next week when Uni Blacks visit us but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
Dom Berry (senior coach Old Xaverians) on their loss to Beaumaris by 3 points:
“We haven’t been far away from the 3 undefeated teams, we have blooded some inexperienced players and with a fair few inclusions to come back in over coming weeks, 18 games is a long season.”
Beaumaris website on their 3 point win against Old Xaverians [full report] “Our special award for this week goes to Chris Waller. Yes, this old Beaumaris player was best-on-ground for Old Xavs, but he stayed behind afterwards for a few lights and to spend time with old mates. Hopefully he drove home asking himself: ‘Why did I ever leave?’”
Old Trinity website on their 4 point win over St Bedes/Mentone Tigers [full report]  “You only had to look at Coach Adam Andrews after the match to understand the significance of the win. So much so, he even wanted to sing the song twice. At long last the T’s had held on to record a memorable victory down at St Bedes.”
Daniel Harford (senior coach St Kevin’s OB) who defeated Old Haileybury by 42 points:
“They were certainly difficult conditions out there and our boys stuck to the task across all four quarters.  I thought Plugger Lynch was great in the ruck, the conditions really suited him today and 100 gamer Karl Wissell was at his in and under best.  Full credit to the boys being able to adapt to the slippery surface and footy. We have some momentum now after our slip up in round one, we need to keep working hard on the track and ensuring we are doing the right things off it as well. Finally, a big thank-you to my assistant coaches in Peta Searle and Jon Edgar for their work throughout the week and on match day. It was certainly your hard work that delivered us the four points”.
Greg Freemantle (senior coach Marcellin) on their 31 point win over Old Cambwerwell
“It was a very important match for the senior team, one which provided a chance to consolidate our early claim for a spot at the top end of the table or push us right back in the muck with a lot of the others, we responded in a very positive way and ultimately recorded a good win.”
Hampton Rovers website on their 62 point loss to PEGS [full report] “It was a test for the Rovers depth with some ten players unavailable for various reasons. Two pulling out on the morning didn’t help the cause and coach Martyn knew it would be a test of character, mentioning pre-game that it would be the side’s best win of the season if they could manage to get up.”
