In Division 1 NOBs/St Pat’s continued their resurgence with a 67 point win over Whitefriars who were well short of a gallop. Keown kicked five as NOBs moved to outright second on the ladder. Yarra Valley got their season back on track with an important 11 point home win over Prahran Assumption. Both Yarra Valley and the Two Blues are in a mid table glut of four teams with a record of 2-3 just outside the four by a game.
Ladder Leaders Therry Penola had no trouble dealing with Bulleen Templestowe as they crushed the visiting Bullants by 109 points. Another bag to each of the Bannisters (Corey 6 goals, Jarrod 5) and another five goals to Valenti saw Therry Penola kick five, six, seven and seven goals in each of the four quarters. The Bullants are now 9th with a record of 1-4.
Elsternwick couldn’t back up last week’s maiden win of 2014 as they succumbed to the visiting Monash Gryphons by 14 points. Fletcher’s three goals for the Grypons see them move to 8th whilst the Wicks are stuck at 9th.
Ivanhoe came from behind to record a fantastic home win by 31 points against St Johns. The home side booted 10 goals to 3 in the second half to move Ivanhoe up to fifth with a record of 3-2.
In another huge come from behind win, Kew rallied late to overhaul the visiting St Mary’s Salesian by 9 points. Allman kicked four goals for the Bears as they came from 38 points down at half time to remain undefeated on top of Division 2.
Old Paradians moved to second on the ladder with fantastic 10 point win over visitors Old Eltham. Ciavola’s five goals were matched by Paradians playing coach David Boundy.
South Melbourne won their second match of the season and continued the winless start to the year of Glen Eira as the home side won by 50 points over the Saints.
There are no more 100% records in Division 3 s Swinburne University suffered their first loss of the year going down at home to a brilliant Aquinas. Williams kicked six goals as the Bloods recorded a 46 point win and became one of four teams with a 3-2 record.
The other previously undefeated side, Richmond Central, also lost for the first time this year. The Snakes went down to a strong UHS-VU side at Brens Oval.
St Francis Xavier did as was expected of them by handing South Mornington another hiding. The X-men saluting by 84 points in the percentage booster.
Emmaus St Leo’s upset the apple cart of Division 3 with a surprise away win at Northern Blues. The Animals claimed the 10 point win with Baranello kicking four goals in the win.
Eley Park Sharks won an important away match at La Trobe Uni by 15 points. Bahnsen booted another four goals for the Sharks. La Trobe are struggling in 10th place with just one win from their first five.
Albert Park are one place lower in 11th as they went down to Power House by 7 points. The game was switched from Albert Park’s home to a Power House home match and that change may have been the difference in the incredibly low scoring match of 31-24.
Hawthorn continued on their merry way in Division 4 albeit by a much smaller margin than they have become accustomed to. The Hawks beat North Brunswick by 46 points with conditions playing a part in their 66-20 win.
Manningham Cobras continued the poor start to the year for Point Cooks as the Cobras travelled west and claimed 15 point win on the road at Saltwater Reserve. Wills kicked four goals for the visitors as the Cobras moved into the four.
Canterbury must love the winning feeling they are generating at Canterbury Sports Ground. The home side comfortably beat the visiting Chadstone by 56 points as ten Cobras kicked goals in the win.
West Brunswick joined Hawthorn as the only undefeated side in Division 4 with a comprehensive 77 point win against the visiting Dragons.
In the game of the round in the Divisions, Box Hill North and Westbourne Grammarians exchanged the lead multiple times throughout the day before Box Hill finished five points up when the final siren sounded. In a match where both sides made the greasy conditions look like a dry day the Penny’s booted nine goals between them whilst Chesterman’s six goals were outstanding for Westbourne. Box Hill’s come from behind win sees them move up to fifth with a record of 3-2 whilst Westbourne Gr. are fifth with a record of 2-3.
