FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

By VAFA · July 16, 2014
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

In an historic first, this Friday night Collegians host Old Brighton in the first ever Premier Section Friday night match at Harry Trott Oval.
In a project that commenced six years ago, Collegians have been working to have quality lighting in order to host senior matches at night and finally this Friday night all that hard work comes to fruition.
“It has been a long road, but one that we have been determined to do despite all the challenges along the way” said Collegians President Wayne Dyer.
“We had wanted to do this earlier in the year in the warmer months but another delay caused us to postpone those plans, it’s great that we can go ahead now and it is great that Old Brighton have also agreed to the fixture change and to play us at night.”
Collegians have hosted a couple of under 19 matches at Harry Trott on the past couple of Friday nights as a rehearsal for this week. The match is also not the first time senior football will be played at night, but it will be the first time Premier or before that an A Section match will be played under lights.
The match will be broadcast live on 96.5 Inner FM from 7.15pm with the game to commence at 7.30. In an extraordinary season in Premier, the game takes on extra significance considering both sides are still a chance of making finals or being relegated.
Inner FM’s coverage of Premier continues on Saturday when they broadcast the Old Scotch (4th) versus Old Trinity (3rd) match from Camberwell Sports Ground.
Earlier in the day Inner FM’s VAFA Football Show from 9-11am will feature special guest Ross Oakley to talk about his time involved in Amateur Football with Collegians as player and coach. Ross will also share insight into his new book The Phoenix Rises, on the transformation of Australia’s game on his time as CEO of the VFL/AFL.
It’s a huge weekend of football, with a third of the season to go the premiership race is wide open in many of the sections, this weekend could reveal more where exactly trophies might be heading in 2014.
