PREMIER-PREMIER C WRAP: TWO THIRDS THROUGH

With no AFL matches on in the traditional 2.10pm time slot today, crowds swelled at Amateur venues across Melbourne as all sides returned from the bye with the last third of the season to be played out.  
In Premier Section, Beaumaris jumped out against Old Xaverians with a  four goal to none opening term, before Xavs responded in the following three quarters to bridge the gap then extend out to a winning 27 point margin. Beaumaris supporters and for that matter Old Xaverians supporters would have enjoyed seeing Waylen Manson take a screamer and boot six goals for the Sharks, however Beauy were held goalless for the middle two quarters and that was where they lost it.

University Blacks had no trouble dealing with De La Salle at the Dairy Bell after they completed an 85 point win to remain on top of the table. Cam Turner kicked four goals for Blacks who again had half their side boot a major.

It was close but no cigar for St Bedes/Mentone Tigers who challenged St Bernards all day at Brindisi St, only to fall eight points shy of the Snowdogs. Andrew Merrington kicked five goals for the visitors in a win that sees them stay level with Blacks on points.
Late heroics from Mark Passador to kick a goal around the corner on his left foot gave Old Scotch a one goal win over Old Trinity at Camberwell. Old Trinity led by a game high 28 points in the third term before their earlier injuries began to take their toll. Reduced to just two on the bench, the Cardinals rallied and after the scores had been tied at 73 each for over five minutes, Passador stepped up to deliver the knock out blow. The T’s lost for consecutive weeks for the first time this year.
Last night under lights at Harry Trott, the historic first Friday Night Premier match, saw home side Collegians kick away from Old Brighton to record a resounding 79 point win. The win had the Lions temporarily in the four before Old Scotch’s triumph today. Nick Corp was the star of the night, booting seven goals in the win that leaves Old Brighton propping up the ladder.

In Premier B, Old Carey had retribution on their mind in their 142 point drubbing of Caulfield Grammarians. The Panthers had half a dozen goals each from Reid and Laidlaw to help celebrate Jack Joslin’s 150th game for the club.
University Blues won by 39 points against Old Haileybury that aside from a bag of six goals from Haileyburians forward Nicolopoulos, won’t be remembered for any great heights.
St Kevin’s won the pivotal eight point game at AJAX by 50 points. Ten goals between Nankervis (6) and Ginnies (4) sees SKOB take a hold on second spot and AJAX slip out of the four on percentage.
Assuming the Jackas place in the four are Old Melburnians who continued their charge up the latter with a 36 point win over Old Ivanhoe at the Pine Lodge. OM’s win has them level on points with AJAX but a superior percentage has them fourth, great reward in captain Tom Paule’s 100th game for the club.
Mazenod led by a point at half time against Fitzroy and whilst the home side would have fancied their chances in the second half, it was one way traffic for the visiting Nodders who powered to a 64 point win off the back of 10 goals from Jason Kavanagh. Mazenod importantly are now two and half games clear of the relegation places.

Oakleigh continued their push to make  Premier C finals with a 31 point win over visiting Old Camberwell. Aaron Cloke booted six goal in the win, whilst Robert Campbell kicked five goals in a losing side.
PEGS found a way to win against a Parkdale Vultures side that never went away, the Bombers ran out eight point winners in Essendon.
Monash Blues had little trouble dealing with Banyule, dispatching the Bears at the Bear Cave by 71 points. Banyule need a miracle to escape the drop.
Ormond’s philanthropy failed to get them the four points at Marcellin as the Eagles maintained their game advantage on top of the pile with a 16 pooints win. Ironically Ormond Presidrnt Richard Simon’s joking request of a 15 point head start in compensation for their generosity would have still fallen short. Ormond will be joining the Bears back in Division 1 if they don’t get their season moving soon. Bolger booted five for the Eagles in the win.
Hampton Rovers kept up the heat on Monash Blues with a vital four goal win over Peninsula in Mt Eliza. Trailing by a couple of points at the final change the Rovers responded best to secure the win.
