U19 PRELIM PREVIEWS

By VAFA · September 5, 2014

UNDER 19 Week 2 Finals Preview
MEGT U19 PREMIER
St Bernards  v  Old Xavierians
A week in football is like no other week. Things can change and change quickly. During the season the Bernards were on top of the mountain, calling all of the shots in all departments. Their last three games have been below season form and coach Rocky Iannello needs to find a solution and a quick one. On the other hand the Xavs have gradually started to find form and are right in this game. Competition B & F winner Jeremy Hannan will give the Xavs great run and will be supported by Nugent, Andeson, Barry and Merlo. In a last stand final the Bernards need their prime movers in Colaco, Deleur , Zoccali and Sibbald to step up.In round 18 the Xavs defetated St.Bernards and current form is the guide.Xavs have got stronger over the last few games while the Bernards are weary and have lost their spark.
I think the Xavs will win and play in the grand final next week.
U19 Section 2
Whitefriars v Old Trinity
This game is a test of midfield pace and skill. In round 16 Whitefriars defeated Old Trinity and The T’s went down to Collegians in the final round-not great form coming into the finals. Whitefriars get great leadership from Tim Petts, Matt Gasowski, Malt (competition B & F winner) and Koutsaplis, whereas Trinity need their core of Polidoros, Bennett, Tyson, Roberts and Gebert to step up right from the start. This game is at the Bill Lawry Oval and the perfect surface will suit both sides. Old Trinity ran out last week’s final on the massive Trinity home ground so they have plenty of petrol in the tank. Whitefriars coaching staff led by Jeremy Freeman are looking for something different, possibly a key midfielder off halfback, to create some spark.OT’s coach Beasley was happy with last week’s effort but knows they need to play at their best to take the chocolates in this one.
Looking at current form, Whitefriars, if they have their best team on the park, will win.
U19 Section 3
Williamstown CYMS  v Marcellin
This game creates great interest as Marcellin is getting better each week. During the home and away games  both sides have won, so it’s going to be close. Williamstown has had some great players over the season including Ebinger, Morris, Gill and Barbett and if they play at their usual standard ,it could be season over for Marcellin. The Ted Ajani Reserve will give both sides plenty of room and this one could go down to the wire.
Robertson, Lunn , Di Roberto, and Malos will give Marcellin some drive but they need support all over the ground. Finals matches go up a peg and the side that leads by example, wins. Both coaches have done a great effort over the season and now it’s up to the players. History says the  2nd Semi losing team often wins the Prelim final and in this case I think Williamstown have the strength to regroup and win.
The only question is Marcellin’s solid form coming into the finals.
Williamstown CYMS in a close one.
