It seemed quite appropriate for the Blacks to be returning to Sportscover Arena (Elsternwick Park) on Father’s Day weekend for their first taste of finals action. The ground itself is not unlike a stereotypical ‘Dad’ in that it’s familiar and has provided many fond memories, yet is also quite daggy and prone to heavy gusts of wind. St Bernards match report after their 43 point defeat to University Blacks
A disciplined Uni Blacks out bodied and then outplayed a disappointing St Bernards in Saturdays 2nd semi final held in near perfect conditions at Elsternwick Park.Kicking with the aid of a slight breeze St Bernards struggled to match the early intensity of Blacks, however a Chad Jones goal on the siren kept the score-line even at the first break. St Bernards looked to settle and strike back in the second term but it was Blacks that took control booting 5.3 to St Bernards 3.3 to open up a 20 point lead at the main break. [Read more]
