Congratulations to Anthony Scott from Old Trinity who is the winner of 2014 VAFA Club Warehouse Rising Star.
Scott, 19, beat off stiff competition from a number of talented youngsters in their first year of VAFA football. He was voted as the winner by a panel for his consistent season playing on the wing for Old Trinity. Scott is the second player from Old Trinity to win the Rising Star award after his current skipper Brendan Iezzi won the award in 2007. Scott played every game in his first year at Old Trinity having been a member of the first XVIII at the school where the school team won one and lost one AGS Grand Final. Whilst performing consistently over the course of the season – he was named in Old Trinity’s best on six occasions, Scott was recognised for his outstanding play in a number of matches, his classy left foot finishing seeing him feature on the highlight reel a number of times.
Scott also played 8 games at the Oakleigh Chargers last year and upon his arrival at Old Trinity in the preseason he immediately impressed all with his silky skills and hardness at the contest. Scott’s early season form saw him play well in Old Trinity’s senior practice matches before being selected for his debut in round 1 against St Bernard’s where he played well and made a solid contribution to the win. Scott was exceptional on the wide wings of Sportscover Arena against Old Xaverians in round 2, running both ways to win plenty of possessions and continued to be hard at the contest and demonstrated his clean skills when in space. It was this performance that won him the nomination for the Club Warehouse Rising Star Award. When not playing football in the green and gold, Anthony is studying Arts at Melbourne University.
Once again from everyone at the VAFA and Club Warehouse congratulate Anthony Scott on winning the 2014 Rising Star Award. Scott will be presented with his award at the Woodrow Medal and VAFA Awards Night next Wednesday at Crown.
