The VAFA, Australia’s largest senior community football competition, seeks a dedicated person to become the Head of Umpiring. The successful candidate will have a keen attention to detail, as well as the vision, communication and management skills to assist in the recruitment and retention of VAFA umpires. The role will include managing over 420 umpires, a first class coaching panel and match day observers.
Reporting to the General Manager of Football and Umpire Operations, tasks will include but not limited to:
•develop and implement innovative strategies to recruit new umpires
•develop and implement strategies for the retention of umpires
•prepare, implement, monitor and review a Coaching Plan that satisfies the requirements of all umpires
•manage an umpiring budget
•appoint umpire coaching personnel and other support staff
•prepare a VAFA Umpiring Development Plan
•conduct mid-season and post season performance appraisals with all coaches and support staff
•co-ordinate and implement the National Umpire Accreditation Scheme involving field, goal and boundary umpires
•conduct Information Sessions for all new umpires and their families prior to the commencement of the season
•prepare and submit reports to the Board, CEO and General Manager of Football and Umpire Operations as required
•liaise with the AFL Umpiring Development Manager on a regular basis
•liaise with the VAFA Umpires Association on a regular basis
•attend meetings and seminars for umpire matters as required
•explore the viability of establishing a VAFA Umpiring Academy
•maintain an umpires data base
•manage payment of umpires
•liaise with VAFA clubs on umpiring matters
Experience and skills required;
•Umpiring experience preferred
•High verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
