Anson Brownless will take over as senior coach of Premier C side Old Camberwell for the 2015 season.
Anson, an ex-Assumption boy and played footy for the Sydney Swans Reserves for two years, then played with Clarence in Tassie, before coming back to the mainland to play for Mt Eliza.
In 1998 Anson was recruited by former Mt Eliza team-mate Matt ‘Bomber’ Hanson to come to Old Camberwell. He played in the 2001 premiership (having flown in from Europe the day before) and in 2008 was named in the Old Camberwell Team Of the Century.
Anson was a prolific goal scorer (76 goals in 2000) and didn’t mind taking a hanger at full forward. Anson retired from playing in 2002 but assumed a coaching role with the Under 19’s from 2003-2005 and was instrumental in the development of young players into senior footballers.
Anson returned to the club in 2013 as Football Operations Manager, and then took up a senior assistant coaching role in 2014.
Old Camberwell officials are thrilled to have Anson at the helm and his past experience as an U19 coach will prove a bonus for the club and the development of their young list.
Old Camberwell have also thanked Ben Robertson and Tim Cantwell for their great efforts over the past two seasons.
“We were fortunate to have such an experienced coach and no doubt the players have learnt many facets of the game to help them improve. They were also both big contributors off the field, involved in all the social events and generous with donations to the club as well as contributing financially, they are big supporters of our club” said outgoing President Steve Derry.
