Congratulations to our very own Brian ‘Benny’ Goodman who in Round 8 of the Victorian Sub District Cricket season will umpire his 350th 1st XI game. Brian joined the Umpiring Panel in season in 1986-87 and has umpired a total of 424 games.
Included in his tally of games are Representative Games, Championship Finals, and numerous Finals games.
Many VAFA followers will have known that umpiring is Benny’s passion, as they would remember him during his illustrious umpiring career in the VAFA.
By our calculations Benny has umpired close to 1000 matches of either cricket or football in his time! In Benny’s own words, that is a lot of time “in the best seat in the house”.
Benny doubles his work load at the VAFA in trying to recruit umpires for the football season with doing a similar job for the VSDCA. In recent years Brian has served as Umpires’ Recruitment Manager as well as assisting the Umpires’ Advisor in the position of ‘Education Officer’ a role created by the VSDCUA.
He is also the Umpires’ Advisor for the South East Cricket Association and of course the VAFA’s General Manager of Football and Umpiring.
All connected with the VAFA congratulate Benny in reaching this significant milestone in his umpiring career.
