There are more local derbies in Premier B than there are in many of the other suburban competitions around Melbourne and Hampton Rovers visit to St Bedes/Mentone Tigers highlighted the action from Round 2.
At three quarter time Hampton Rovers led St Bedes/Mentone by three points and we were set for a thrilling final quarter at Brindisi St, but a nine goal to three final 30 minutes from the Tigers saw them run out 40 point winners over Rovers. In fact the Tigers kicked 9.7 for the term to completely blow the game open. Matt Robbins booted four goals in a losing Rovers side.
AJAX setup their eight point win over Parkdale Vultures in the first half as the Jackers had an incredible ten straight at half time, seven of the goals came in the first term. They would finish with 15.3 for the game, as the Vultures clawed their way back into the contest. In the end, it was only inaccuracy that cost Parkdale the win. Jake Lew bagged five goals for AJAX.
Old Melburnians went 2-0 with a comfortable 73 point win over Caulfield Grammarians. Hurley-Wellington booted four goals as the Fields only managed six goals for the day.
Half a dozen goals from Daniel Anthony helped Old Brighton to a 50 point win at Mazenod. The Tonners established a break in the first quarter and were never troubled thereafter.
St Kevin’s were confronted by a fired up Fitzroy at TH King, but once the SKOBs got into gear they strength around the stoppages and variety of scoring options proved too strong as they defeated the Roys by 47 points. Fitzroy kicked five first quarter goals but could only manage four more in the next three as St Kevin’s flexed their muscle. Lynch with four goals for the home side in the win.
Old Brighton, Old Melburnians and SKOB are the front runners, whilst Fitzroy, Mazenod and Parkdale are yet to get on the board.
