Big V Weekend is here!
Representative football weekend is upon us, starting with Thursday’s Big V Gala Dinner, then Saturday’s two massive matches against PFL at VAFA HQ and finishing with Sunday’s matches at Bendigo.
It was a mouth watering prospect and it delivered big time a Old Ivanhoe won a classic encounter against Marcellin by three points in their top of the table clash. Both sides were 6-1 coming into the contest at the Pine Lodge, and whilst the Hoes were depleted with up to nine players out of their side, their replacements were up for the challenge of the Eagles. A controversial last five minutes where Marcellin were denied a goal when Old Ivanhoe were not penalised for deliberately rushing a behind. It didn’t matter as Marcellin were then rewarded for a holding the ball decision a minute later, the free kick was just 15 metres out and the goal brought them within three points. Courageous play from Old Ivanhoe defenders saw that the Hoes won the day and a pulsating contest.
Monash Blues missed the chance to join Old Ivanhoe on top as they fell to a determined Oakleigh by 28 points with Bromley kicking five goals for the Krushers. It was Blues first loss since round 1 and they now site third. Oakleigh level up their season at 4-4.
Old Haileyburians crushed the hearts of Old Camberwell when they held on to win another thriller by a point. Old Camberwell had plenty of chances as they peppered the goals but they couldn’t land the killer blow in a low scoring match.
Peninsula returned to the winners list with a huge win over visiting Therry Penola by 96 points at Mt Eliza. Twelve Pirates were on the scoresheet as Therry could managed just three goals for the day.
Williamstown CYMS recorded their second win of the year with an 18 point win over the winless PEGS. Nick Ebinger booted seven goals in the win for the CY’s that has them a game clear of the relegation zone.
