Animals maul VU, Power House end losing streak in thriller

By Nick Armistead

Aquinas stayed in touch with the top two sides as they held off a fast-finishing Hawthorn to win by six points at Aquinas College. Leading by 14 points at the end of the third quarter, the Bloods gave up five goals to three in the last as the Hawks made their move – albeit too late. Richard Ogge’s six goals were not quite enough for the losing side.

UHS-VU was no match for ladder leaders Emmaus St Leos, going down to the Animals by 72 points at Bennettswood Sports Ground. Alexander McDougall was best-on-ground, while Matthew Lalor kicked five goals to help keep the Animals’ unbeaten start to the season alive.

Power House and Albert Park played out a thriller, with Power House ending a six-game losing streak by holding on to win by four points at Beaurepaire Pavilion. T Collett was the best with three goals in a BOG performance.

West Brunswick scored 32 times on their way to a 21-point win against Swinburne University at St James Park on Saturday afternoon. Cementing second spot on the ladder, the Westies fired in the last to bring home the win and keep the Razorbacks in fifth spot with four wins for the season.

Glen Eira erased a four-point three-quarter time deficit to run out 16-point winners against Eley Park Sharks at Whitehorse Reserve and record their fourth win in a row. Julius Waras Carstensen starred with five goals, while Noel Bahnsen snagged seven for the losing side.
