Hoes lower Wickers’ flame, Turtles shell shock Blues in Division 2

Ivanhoe made it three in a row and 14 of 16 this season when they defeated Elsternwick by 129 points at Elsternwick Park Oval. It was the Mitchell Lovell show as the key forward booted 13 goals and increased his overall tally to 65 for the season – third in Division 2. The Hoes remain at the top of the ladder, while the Wickers sit ninth with three wins this year.

MHSOB won their fourth match from their past five encounters with an eight-point victory against South Melbourne Districts at Melbourne High School. Trailing by one goal at the final break, the Unicorns kicked four goals to two in the last quarter, thanks in large to a match-high six majors from Nick Hawking. The Unicorns sit sixth on the Division 2 ladder and two games outside the top four.

Old Eltham Collegians continued their excellent form with an important 53-point win over Northern Blues at Eltham College. Shooting out to a 19-point first-quarter lead, the Turtles maintained an arm’s length for the remainder of the match while steadily increasing their lead. The win elevates the Turtles to fourth, while the Blues fall to fifth on the Division 2 ladder.

Richmond Central recorded a major upset when they defeated third-placed Old Paradians by nine points at Kevin Bartlett Reserve. Trailing by five points heading into the last quarter, the Snakes sent through five goals to three in the last term to run out surprise winners. Jake Munro and Steve Bugeja kicked five goals each for the Snakes, while David Boundy snagged six for the Raiders. The victory snaps a four game losing streak and keeps the Snakes in seventh position on the ladder.

St Johns continue their journey toward finals with a monster 80-point win against Monash Gryphons at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Leading by six goals at half time, the JOCs put the game beyond the Gryphons’ reach with an 11-goal to six third quarter. Tim Edwards starred with a 10-goal haul, while Aaron Thornton sits second on the goal kicking leader board with four taking his 2015 tally to 67.
