Massacres all-round as SKOB, Jackers and Roys record monster wins

Massacres all-round as SKOB, Jackers and Roys record monster wins

AJAX proved they refuse to give up the fight for a 2015 finals berth when they dismantled Caulfield Grammarians by 124 points at Gary Smorgon Oval. It was a two-man show as Jackers pair David Fayman and Jake Lew combined for 17 of their side’s 23 goals, while the Fields could only manage four in total. The win leaves the Jackers in fifth position on the ladder and one game behind the Tonners.

Fitzroy produced one of the performances of the round when they thrashed Hampton Rovers to the tune of 104 points at Brunswick St Oval. Trailing by two points at the first break, the Roys went on to kick 22 of the next 27 goals to give themselves a well-deserved percentage boost. Sam Baker was named best-on-ground for the Roys, while Rory Angiolella continued his red-hot 2015 form with two goals and a bevy of disposals.

Old Melburnians outlasted Old Brighton in the battle of third versus fourth, recording a 15-point come-from-behind victory at Edwin Flack Park. Trailing by seven points at the end of the first quarter, the Redlegs kicked five goals to three in the second and maintained a small lead at each break for the remainder of the match. Nic Daish was named as the Redlegs’ best player, while Daniel Anthony kicked four in a losing side.

Second-placed St Bedes/Mentone Tigers retained a one-game distance between themselves and Old Melburnians in third with a tough three-goal win against Parkdale Vultures at Gerry Green Reserve. With scores level at half time, the Tigers piled on nine goals to six in the second half thanks in large to the goal kicking prowess of Luke Velluto (3), Tim Doherty (3) and Patrick Tyquin (2). The loss leaves the Vultures in eighth spot on the ladder with just four wins from their 15 games.

St Kevins made a meal of Mazenod, defeating the struggling side by 153 points at TH King Oval this afternoon. 55 scoring shots to two was the story of the match as SKOB refused to let their opponents anywhere near goal. Phil Edgar kicked five in a best-on-ground display, while SKOB shared the remaining 18 goals between 11 players.
