Blues jump into four, while Turtles jump out

Blues jump into four, while Turtles jump out

Seven straight goals in the final quarter has helped Northern Blues run over the top of Monash Gryphons by 16 points in a hard-fought affair at W.R. Ruthven Reserve. Trailing by one point at the last break, the Blues clicked in the last, while keeping the Gryphons to just four more majors. It was an important win for the Blues, who now sit fourth and a game clear of Eltham in fifth.

Division 2 ladder leaders Ivanhoe held a hard-running Old Eltham unit at bay to record a 29-point win at Eltham College. Despite scoring on six less occasions than the Turtles, the Hoes’ efficiency stood them apart across the four quarters. Reuben Blackmore-Moore and Daniel Jones combined for eight majors for the winning side. The loss pushed the Turtles outside the top four and a game behind Northern Blues.

Melbourne High School Old Boys recorded a valiant three-goal come-from-behind victory against Richmond Central at Kevin Bartlett Reserve. It turned out to be a battle between the two key forwards, with Nick Hawking and Jake Munro kicking six goals each for their respective sides.

Old Paradians registered a comfortable 79-point win against South Melbourne Districts at Lindsay Hassett Oval. Leading by 45 points at the half, the Raiders failed to give an inch as they sent through another 10 goals to five for the remainder of the match.

St Johns returned to the winners’ list with a 96-point win against Elsternwick at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Aaron Thornton continued to wreak havoc in front of goal with four, while Corey Ely was named best afield for the JOCs.
