Eagles, Blues, Hoes assert dominance at top of Premier C

Marcellin maintained their dominance at the top of the Premier C ladder with a 32-point win against PEGS at Marcellin College. The Eagles came out firing, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to establish an arm’s length lead of which they refused to give up for the remainder of the match. As has been the case all season, Jeremiah Antypas led from the front by booting four goals for the Eagles.

Oakleigh put last week’s loss to Old Haileyburians behind them with a 42-point win against Williamstown CYMS at W. A. Scammell Reserve. Despite kicking 24 behinds amongst their 41 scoring shots, the Krushers proved too strong as they held the CYs to just 19 scoring shots and 84 points. Aaron Cloke dominated up forward with six majors, while Ben Gray was the CY’s best with seven goals in the loss.

Old Ivanhoe put an end to Old Camberwell’s three-match winning streak, defeating them by 39 points at Chelsworth Park. Trailing by two points at quarter time, the Hoes piled on 11 goals to five in the final three terms to run out comfortable victors. Michael Delmonte dominated in a best-on-ground performance for the Hoes, while Bradley Thompson kicked four.

Peninsula recorded a stellar 23-point come-from-behind victory against Therry Penola at John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve today. Allowing four goals to their nil in the first term, the Pirates regained composure and piled on 14 of the next 23 goals to run out on top. Big V representative James Fletcher continued his dominant 2015 season with a best-on-ground performance, while Jarrod Bannister did his utmost by kicking seven goals for the Lions.

Monash Blues staved off fellow top four threat, Old Haileyburians, and maintained a one game buffer in second position on the ladder with a 28-point win at Princes Park, Caulfield. A five-goal to nil first quarter was all it took as the Bloods failed to close the gap in the final three quarters. Alfred Oppy and Maddison Hardiman were the main destroyers in front of goal for the Blues, snagging six between them.
