North Brunswick recorded the biggest upset of the weekend to date when they defeated the ladder-leading Canterbury by 11 points at W.A. Scammell Reserve. An incredible nine-goal to two opening term did the damage as the Cobras struggled to pin the margin back in the remaining three quarters. Despite the loss, the Cobras are guaranteed the second chance given they finished atop the Division 4 ladder.
Box Hill North kept their season alive with a 13-point semi-final win against Point Cook at Garvey Oval this afternoon. Trailing by nine points heading into the final term, the Demons kicked 3.5 while keeping the Bulldogs to the solitary behind in the last quarter. Adrian Piccioli was granted best-on-ground honours for his two goals and a bevy of disposals. Canterbury’s loss means Point Cook’s season is over after they finished third on the Division 4 ladder with 13 wins for the home and away season.
Parkside delivered another huge upset in Division 4 when they defeated the second-ranked Westbourne Grammarians by 22 points at PEGS Sporting Fields. Leading by two points at the last break, the Red Devils kicked four goals to two in the last quarter to solidify their tag as the form side of the section. Darren Gresham starred in a best-on-ground performance, while league-leading goal kicker Dale Collins kicked two for the Warriors. The loss spells the end of the road for the Warriors after Canterbury, who were ranked one position higher, lost yesterday.
