Mazenod were unable to avoid relegation as they suffered a 12-point loss to AJAX at Gary Smorgon Oval this afternoon. Leading by two goals at three quarter time, Mazenod could only register one goal in the final term, while the Jackers kicked five. Jake Lew starred for the Jackers with seven majors, finishing the season as Premier B’s leading goal kicker. Despite the disappointing loss, it’s hard to see Mazenod out of Premier B for long with a highly talented list of young guns making their way through the ranks.
Old Melburnians head into next week’s semi-final full of confidence following a hard-fought 15-point win over Fitzroy at Ross Gregory Oval. Trailing by one goal at the first break, the Redlegs piled on nine goals to six in the remaining three quarters to win their third match from their last four outings. Theodore Rosenthal was named best on ground for the Redlegs, while Patrick Garschagen snagged three in the win. The Roys ended their season in sixth position and with eight wins to their name.
Parkdale Vultures were faultless as they avoided relegation with a sublime 41-point win against Hampton Rovers at Gerry Green Reserve. Needing a win and percentage, the Vultures stuck to their structures as they sent through 19 goals to 14 in an inspired display. Brett Hampton and Charlie Dillon did the damage for the Vultures as they combined for eight goals, while Guy Martyn snagged five for the Rovers.
St Bedes/Mentone Tigers finished their home and away season in style with an 80-point victory against Caulfield Grammarians at Brindisi St Oval. Shooting out to a 32-point first half lead, the Tigers refused to alleviate the pressure as they piled on nine goals to four in the final two quarters. Luke Velluto starred in front of goal once again for the Tigers, finishing the match with four majors. The loss ends a disappointing season for the Fields who will look to regroup and refocus in Premier C next season.
St Kevin’s finished the home and away season undefeated after they dismantled Old Brighton to the tune of 97 points at TH King Reserve. Leading by just two points at the end of the first term, SKOB kicked 19 of the next 24 goals to run away with the lead. Both sides will feature in next weekend’s finals after the Tonners held on to fourth position on the Premier B ladder.
