Originally published on St Bernard’s FC website, 25 September 2015, titled ‘Premiership caps a great year for the Caven brothers’.
What a year in football it has been for brothers Tom, Simon and Michael Caven.
Playing for St Bernard’s in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, the three brothers have capped off a remarkable year by all playing in the Premier A Grade Grand Final last Sunday in a tight contest that saw St Bernard’s prevail by 8 points over a gallant Old Trinity.
Individually they have put together some very impressive achievements this year:
Tom Caven:
St Bernard’s Premiership Full Back and Captain
VAFA State Full Back and Vice- Captain
Simon Caven:
St Bernard’s Premiership Centre Half Back
VAFA U23 Captain/Centre Half Back
U23 All Australian Team
VAFA Team of the Year – Centre Half Back
Michael Caven:
St Bernard’s Premiership Back Pocket
VAFA U19 Captain
VAFA Award vs Vic. Country
All three Caven’s are products of the St Bernard’s College, the St. Bernard’s junior football program and have progressed to being integral members of the successful 2015 Senior Premiership team; all as part of the Bernard’s “back six”. Michael, who remains an eligible U19 player in season 2016, was also a member of the 2014 U19 Premier premiership team.
Senior coach, Anthony Rock said, “The football club is blessed to have the benefit of the three Caven brothers all contributing so well in their on-field roles. Playing with your brothers, in a strong community club, for the love of the game and for the love of the football club is something money can’t buy, reflecting the core values of the amateur football spirit”.
We congratulate Tom, Simon and Michael on their achievements in season 2015, and look forward to all 3 coming back fitter, stronger and keen as ever to strive for the club’s first ever “back to back” Premiership seasons in Premier section.
