Vale David Clough

By VAFA · January 10, 2016
Vale David Clough

The Old Mentonians’ Football Club are mourning the passing of one of their favourite sons.  David Clough passed away on New Year’s Day, after a long illness.  David was only 60 years old.

David joined the Panthers after leaving the School and played 65 games between 1975 and 1981.  Coincidently, 65 was, for most of his career with the Club, his guernsey number.  He was the 150th player to represent the OMFC.

Off field, ‘Cloughy’ made an outstanding contribution to the Panthers.  He was a long term committee member, primarily as an enthusiastic and hard working social chairman.  He subsequently assumed the role of President and led the Club in 1981 and 1982.

His hard work and dedication to the Panthers’ cause was acknowledged by all and was formally recognised when he won the Best Club Member award in 1978 and when he was made a Life Member in 1981.

Moving to the country made it difficult for David to attend games, but the Panthers were never far from his thoughts and he was an avid follower of the Club’s fortunes.

David Clough was one of those, who by their hard work and passion, helped establish the Club through its early years.  His good humour and hard work made him an invaluable member of our Club.  He will be sadly missed.

The Club extends its sympathy to his wife Angela and children Jack and Nova, and to his mother Joan, brother Michael (also a past player with the Club) and sister Sally.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday 8 January at Ceres Community Environment Park in Brunswick.

Old Mentonians Football Club

The VAFA offers its deepest condolences to David’s family, friends and the Old Mentonians Football Club during this time.
