In accordance with the VAFA’s Gambling Policy, it will not tolerate any Club official, player or umpire betting on VAFA matches.
Due to the abundance of sports betting advertising infiltrating Australian sport and the ease at which bets can be placed, there is growing concern regarding the impact it is having on young people within the community.
“We have had the opportunity to partner bookmakers in the past and refused,” VAFA CEO Michael Sholly said.
“We do not support or promote any bookmaking agency who bets on VAFA matches and any players, officials or umpires found to have placed bets on VAFA matches will be dealt with swiftly and severely. It is not what Amateur stands for and it will not be tolerated.”
Partnering with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation (VRGF) earlier this year, the VAFA promotes responsible gambling and encourages greater understanding and awareness of responsible gambling in the wider community.
