Panthers, Ogs maul opponents on way to monster wins in Division 1

An eight-goal second quarter has led Old Geelong to a 52-point victory against St Mary’s Salesian at Como Park earlier today. Led by 2015 U19 phenomenon Jock Grimshaw (three goals) and William Sloss, the Ogs put a 17-point first term deficit to bed as they kicked 18 of the next 25 goals for the match. Gary Puruntatameri and last year’s Division 1 Best and Fairest, Sid Jones, snagged three each for the Saints.

PEGS moved to fifth spot on the Division 1 ladder on the back of their 43-point win against Old Paradians at Garvey Oval. Jarryd Rogers and Mark Wilson combined for six of PEGS’ 14 majors, while Robert Baddeley tore shreds in a best-on-ground performance. Robert Amerena stood tall for the Raiders, who find themselves winless and in eighth position on the ladder after two rounds.

Old Mentonians backed up last week’s 152-point demolition of Brunswick NOBSPC with a 115-point victory against Ivanhoe at Ivanhoe Park. Darcy Brown increased his goal tally after two rounds to 12 on the back of seven majors, while Luke Hull (five), Brenton Schubert (four) and Kyle Conlon (four) all peppered the scoreboard. Chris Kingsford went all day and was named best player for the Hoes. The Panthers sit on top of the ladder with a percentage of 328.21, while the Hoes linger in seventh position.

Brunswick NOBSPC were unable to register their first win for the season as Prahran Assumption came from nine points down at the last break to beat them by 17 points at St Pat’s College. Patrick Harris was the main destroyer in front of the Two Blues’ goals with five majors, while John Robbins kicked three. Danny King was the only multiple goal scorer for NOBSPC, who gave an improved effort after going down by 152 points last week.

Therry Penola sit second on the Division 1 ladder at the conclusion of Round 2 after they came back to defeat Whitefriars by nine points at Whitefriars College. Down by three going into the last quarter, the Lions kicked five goals to three in the last term to edge out their courageous opponents. Jarrod Bannister dominated with five goals for the Lions and Ciaran Hickey added to his bag from last week with another three for the Friars. Jake Mennuni was best on the field and he was assisted by Matthew Reynolds and Jarrod Egglestone for the winning side.
