As we introduce women’s football to the VAFA with a number of compromised matches being played this weekend, it seems timely to recognise VAFA HQ’s own Football Operations Assistant, Mikala Sykes, who has been appointed head coach of the Frankston and District U15 Girls’ Interleague side.
Mikala, who currently co-coaches the Seaford U13 boy’s team, said the appointment bodes well for her development and ambition to coach an AFL side in the future.
“I’m learning a number of ways to interact with different types of players who each possess different abilities,” she said.
“Hopefully it stands me in good stead to enter the AFL in the coming years; North Melbourne or Gold Coast would be ideal.”
Mikala is currently producing the VAFA women’s football club guide in preparation for the VAFA’s 2017 women’s competition.
The VAFA congratulates Mikala on her achievements and wishes her the best in her coaching endeavours.
