St Francis Xavier officials are claiming Jim van Dam kicked one of the longest goals ever witnessed during his side’s Club XVIII (1) loss to Old Xaverians at Elsternwick Park Oval No. 2 over the weekend.
In the dying moments, van Dam gathered the loose ball on the defensive line of the centre square, took a few steps and launched a Malcolm Blight-esque bomb which sailed over oncoming traffic and bounced the last 20m through the big sticks.
The overall distance: 102m.
Van Dam may not yet have grandchildren, but we’re guessing they will hear all about Grandpa’s goal on May 7, 2016 on more than one occasion.
