Nodders flying at 6-0, Fields come from behind against Kew

Old Ivanhoe maintained their spot in the top four following their hard-fought 37-point win against Old Camberwell. Trailing the Wellers by seven points at the main break, the Hoes piled on nine of the next 12 goals to ensure victory, with Adrian Del Monte backing up his Daicos magic from last week with a bag of six alongside Sam Geilings’ second best on in a row. Thomas KIanz kept his streak of sensational performances alive with three goals for the Wells, taking his season tally to 21 from six outings.

A four-goal to nil third term has proved the difference between the ladder-leading Mazenod and winless Ormond over the weekend, with the Nodders claiming victory by 16 points at E.E. Gunn Reserve. Liam Riley tore shreds in his first match for the year and Ben Phibbs, Stephen Welsford and Brad Kovac kicked two goals each for the Nodders. Luke Duthie shone as the Monders best with three majors.

Williamstown CYMS quickly put last round’s loss to Old Ivanhoe behind them as they ran over Marcellin to the tune of 73 points at Fearon Reserve. With just five points separating the two sides at quarter time, the CYs accelerated with four goals to nil in the second before going full savage and snagging 12 of the next 18 in the second half. Zac Read and Steven Puhar combined for eight majors for the fifth-placed CYs, while Andrew Kay (three goals) and Nick Crosbie did the damage for the Eagles.

Caulfield Grammarians’ strong start to the season continued as they proved too strong for Kew with an eight-point come-from-behind victory at Victoria Park. Trailing by 19 points at the half, the Fields kicked six goals to one in the third and held their lead for the remainder of the match. Declan Reilly is producing a monster season for the Fields and continued his hot form with five goals in a best-on-ground display. Andrew Brazzale (four) and Liam Kinsella (three) combined for seven goals for the Bears, who sit sixth after three losses by eight points of less.

Peninsula’s losing form was never going to last after falling to Mazenod last week and they got their season back on track with a comfortable 47-point win against Oakleigh at Scammell Reserve. Jeremy Gleeson and James Fletcher ran a muck through the Pirates’ midfield, while Trevor Bromley and Aaron Cloke kicked all of the Krusher’s seven goals.
