VAFA umpire, Kevin ‘Chillie’ Segota, will notch up his 800th VAFA match when he mans the goals at the blockbuster clash between Old Xaverians and University Blues at Toorak Park this weekend.
Chillie started with the VAFA in 1978 as a 17-year-old boundary umpire (as he was too young for the field). After a season on the boundary, he moved to the field, where remained until 1994.
After making his move to the goals in 1995, Chillie umpired six grand finals, including the 1987 A section with Greg Hardiman, and the 1987 representative match at the Adelaide Oval.
In all, he officiated in 240 field appointments. This alone would be an envious umpiring career, but Chillie wasn’t finished. In the goals, he has racked up an incredible 539 matches, including 17 grand finals (seven in A section/Premier) and six representative appointments.
This is an incredible accomplishment and on behalf of all those in the VAFA community, we would like to congratulate Kevin.
