Monders down Wellers for first of 2016, Hoes too strong for Pirates

Monders down Wellers for first of 2016, Hoes too strong for Pirates

The undefeated Mazenod train continued on its merry way as they defeated Oakleigh by 33 points at Central Reserve. Leading by just five points after a tight first half, the Nodders put the foot down and booted six of the next eight to run away with their seventh consecutive win. Tim Bourbon was the main man yet again, kicking three goals and running riot as the best player on the ground. Brad Kovac was relentless for the Nodders alongside Bourbon, while goal-kicking maestro, Aaron Cloke, snagged four for the 10th-placed Krushers.

Ormond registered their first four points of the 2016 season with a nine-point win against Old Camberwell at E.E. Gunn Reserve. After falling to a 35-point deficit at the first break, the Monders fought back with seven goals to nil in the second, before doing enough to hold on in the final hour of the match. Jeremy Simon is in vintage form with his third best on for the Monders and Rob Chisholm led on the scoreboard with three goals. Jordan Eade did the damage for the Wellers with three of his own.

Caulfield Grammarians currently boast the most devastating attack in Premier C after they defeated Williamstown CYMS by 86 points and took their average score to 102 from the first seven rounds. 10 goals to one in the second term proved the difference between the two sides, with Louis O’Keefe starring in front of goal for the Fields, booting eight and taking his season tally to 23. Thomas Gill and Tim Murphy were the best for the CYs, who remain fifth on the ladder and three spots behind the Fields.

Kew made it two from their last three when they defeated Marcellin by 20 points in a high-scoring affair at Victoria Park. Jack Delbridge was the most damaging player on the field and Andrew Brazzale kicked four majors for the Bears. James Robertson was the Eagles’ best in front of the sticks with four of his own and Jackson Green snagged three. The Bears sit sixth and two wins outside the four, while the Eagles remain stranded on one win and in eighth spot on the ladder.

Old Ivanhoe flexed their muscle and showcased their finals credentials with a comprehensive 52-point win against fellow finals aspirant Peninsula at the Pirate’s home today. The Hoes were relentless on defence, allowing just two goals against for the first three quarters while piling on 12 of their own. The Pirates regrouped and outscored the Hoes in the fourth but it was too little, too late as the Hoes ran out comfortable winners. Matt Ferguson displayed the form he promised when making the move to the Hoes in the offseason, kicking five alongside Paul Colbert’s four.  David Bruno dominated in the ruck for the Hoes, while Sam Glenn was the Pirate’s best.
