How good was the 2016 AFL Grand Final between the Western Bulldogs and Sydney Swans? A hard-fought 22-point victory gave the Dogs their first premiership since 1954 after finishing the home and away fixture in seventh spot on the ladder. It was simply amazing.
How exciting was it to see former St Bedes/Mentone Tigers premiership coach, Luke Beveridge, lead the charge in just his second year at the Kennel? After leading the Tigers to three consecutive flags in 2006 (C Section), 2007 (B Section) and 2008 (A Section), it is sensational to see our very own succeed at the top level.
But was Beveridge the only Amateur connection to take part in last weekend’s Grand Final? Not quite.
The VAFA network extends far and wide, with many of last Saturday’s players, coaches, staff members and administrators associated with our Clubs.
