“The St Bedes / Mentone Tigers Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Anstey as the new senior coach of the club alongside new assistants Luke Wintle, Anthony Scafidi and Peter Laspatzis who will also take on the development coaching role.

Sam is well known to club, having played for us from 2006 and 2011 and contributing greatly to our three premiership victories in 2006, 2007 & 2008 when current 2016 Western Bulldogs Premiership Coach, Luke Beveridge, was coaching the Tigers and was Club Champion in 2006 and a joint winner with Luke Wintle in 2008.

He transferred to Mordialloc in 2012 as a player before taking on the Coaching role there in 2013 through to 2015. Mordialloc played in 3 Grand Finals during those years and enjoyed Premiership success in 2014.

In 2015 he won the prestigious AFL Victoria Community Football’s Senior Coach of the Year Gerald Fitzgerald Award.

Luke Wintle is also no stranger to the Tigers having played 301 Senior and Under 19 games for the club and was Captain of the Seniors for 8 seasons, 2001 till 2008, also recording 3 Premierships for the club.

Anthony Scafidi is another former Tiger having played in the 3 Senior Premierships in 2006 / 2007 & 2008.

Anthony played for Edi-Asp and won his first Premiership medal at that club in 2000 before moving to Port Melbourne in 2001 -2002 then returning to Edi-Asp.

In 2006 he transferred to the Tigers to play with his brother Andrew and played 130 games before joining Mordialloc, again to play with his brother in 2012. Anthony tasted Premiership success at Mordialloc in 2014.

At the Tigers Anthony won the E. J. Turner Memorial Most Courageous Trophy in 2006 and Best Team Player Award in 2009. Anthony was Vice Captain in 2009 and 2010.

Our new to the club Assistant Coach is Peter (Lippa) Laspatzis who will also take on our Development Team Coaching position in 2017.

Peter commenced playing for Mordialloc around 1997 before moving to NSW and being appointed Captain Coach of Penrith Rams AFL team in 2003. When he returned to Victoria it was back to Mordialloc and after many years took on the Reserves Coaching position from 2010 till 2015 winning a Premiership in 2014.

Peter has been given a great wrap from both Sam and Anthony so please introduce yourself to him when you’re next down at the club, be it pre-season training or when the practice matches commence.

The club wishes to thank our 2016 Senior Coach Steve Ryan and Assistant Adam Acreman for their efforts in lifting the team from third in 2015 to Runners Up in 2016, earning promotion back to Premier A for 2017.

This is a fantastic achievement and will be properly recorded in the club’s Annual Report.
The club also wishes to thank our Assistant and Development Coach Steve D’Andrea for his efforts. With a constantly changing team week in and week out Steve took the guys to third in 2016 and were Runners Up in 2015.

Prior to that Steve Coached the Under 19’s to a memorable Premiership against Flag Favourites Old Xavs in 2013 and has spent 14 years coaching the Tigers.”
