The VAFA has recently recorded 1000 registrations for its first-ever women’s competition in 2017.
CEO Michael Sholly says the milestone “three weeks prior to the season’s commencement showcases the enthusiasm and commitment of our clubs”.
“With 1000 registrations and 800 women set to take part in next weekend’s Lightning Premiership, the excitement surrounding women’s football is high and we look forward to building upon it as we lead in to Round 1.”
The first round of women’s football will kick off with a blockbuster Friday night game between Hampton Rovers and Ormond on April 7 at Boss James Reserve.
In the lead-up, the VAFA is hosting its women’s Lightning Premiership with 24 teams facing off at Sportscover Arena on April 1 and 2.
