Old Geelong kick-started their 2017 VAFA women’s campaign in sensational style as they took out the first-ever Lightning Premiership at Sportscover Arena.
After flying through the round-robin stages with three consecutive wins and a percentage of 2125, the Ogs piled on 10 scoring shots in the grand final to run out 25-point victors against Oakleigh Krushers.
The Krushers were phenomenal all day as they and Caulfield Grammarians won all three round robin matches, while Old Haileybury, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers and Ivanhoe each won two.
Hampton Rovers, Collegians, Old Camberwell, South Melbourne Districts, Swinburne University and De La Salle rounded out he first day of the Lightning Premiership, with all teams showcasing a high level of talent and enthusiasm.
The second Lightning Premiership will take place at Sportscover Arena from 9am tomorrow.
