Marcellin Sheagles completed their off-season with a thrilling seven-point Lightning Premiership Grand Final victory against a gallant St Mary’s Salesian at Sportscover Arena.
Kicking with the Elsternwick breeze in the first half, the Sheagles shot out to a four-goal lead before the Saints rallied and piled on three unanswered in the second. Despite having the ascendancy, the Saints were unable to overcome the strong defence of the Sheagles late in the match as they locked the ball in the forward half and held on for a special win, 25-18.
The grand finalists were the only two sides to go through the round-robin stage undefeated, with Beaumaris, Yarra Old Grammarians, Mazenod, Ormond and UHS-W finishing with two wins each from their three outings.
St Mary’s Salesian (2), SKOB Saints (2), Hawthorn, Therry Penola and Old Mentonians were the remaining sides who participated in another fantastic day of VAFA Women’s football.
