Bushrangers clip Unicorns, Gryphons claw past Two Blues

Bushrangers clip Unicorns, Gryphons claw past Two Blues

Yarra Old Grammarians went two from two when they defeated an inaccurate MHSOB by nine pints at Doncaster Reserve. Despite having six less scoring shots (7.7 – 4.16) the Bushrangers held their nerve with Nathan O’Neill (two) leading the charge as the best player of the turf. Nicholas Chamberlain top-scored with three majors for Yarra who sit second behind Bulleen Templestowe. Thomas Hickey and David Sorgiovanni (one) stood out for the one-win Unicorns.

Emmaus St Leo’s came from a goal down at three quarter time and registered a thrilling two-point victory over Old Paradians at Garvey Oval. The lead didn’t extend beyond seven points at any break throughout the day with Christopher Beluszar leading from the front five of the Animals’ 13 goals in a best-on-ground performance. William Gilmore continued his stellar start the year as the best player for the Raiders.

A six-goal to two opening term paved the way for West Brunswick’s second win of the season, defeating Eltham Collegians by 44 points at Ransford Oval. William Sadler was best afield after another strong performance for the Westies, while Rhys Hartwig booted four goals. The Turtles, who are yet to win a match, were led admirably by Troy Jinnette for the second game in a row and Luke Ogilvie.

Eight goals from Peter Voglis led the top-of-the-table Bulleen Templestowe to an impressive 119-point victory over Hawthorn AFC at Ted Ajani Reserve. Kicking three goals in the opening term, Voglis was dominant in attack all day alongside partner in crime Kristian Cherbakof (six) who was named best afield. David Upton led valiantly all day for the Hawks, while Thomas Bowler (three) top-scored with his second trey to start the year.

Glen Eira Gryphons overcame the highly-fancied Prahran Assumption by 11 points under lights at Toorak Park last night. The Gryphons trailed by as much as 27 points at the main break but fought their way back via a nine-goal to three second half. No statistics have been submitted for the Gryphons, but Paul Donahoo and Gerard Hogarth (three) fought hard for the Two Blues in the absence of Eric Kuret.
