Mitris leads Hoers to thrilling win over Bloods, Ogs hit the board

Mitris leads Hoers to thrilling win over Bloods, Ogs hit the board

A best-on-ground captain’s performance from Mal Mitris led Old Ivanhoe to a hard-fought two-point victory over Old Haileybury at Chelsworth Park. In a low-scoring affair (53-51), the Hoes kicked two straight goals to seven Bloods behinds in the final term to steal their much-needed first win of the year. Mitris was phenomenal and continued his tradition of stepping up against the best sides, Ben Leach kicked the last two goals while David Bruno dominated the ruck dual for the Hoers. The Bloods lose top spot following the loss but Adam Budge was dominant for the second consecutive week.

Caulfield Grammarians hit back after their Round 2 loss to Old Haileybury in a very big way, defeating the in-form Williamstown CYMS by 58 points at Glenhuntly Oval. Leading by 29 points heading into the last term, the Fields piled on eight goals to three and stormed home to their second win of the year. Jackson Small was named best afield and Louis O’Keefe bagged three for the Fields, while William Ostrowsky stood up for the CYs.

Old Geelong claimed their first win for the year on the back of an 18-point victory against Old Camberwell at Gordon Barnard Reserve. The Ogs set up the win with a five-goal to one opening term and held strong when the Wellers came hard in the final term. Will Sloss, Harry Graham and George Burbury (two) starred for the Ogs, while Simon Bennett backed up the four he kicked in Round 2 with another five for the Wellers. The Wellers sit fifth after their first loss for the year and the Ogs move to seventh.

There’s a new ladder-leader in Premier C after Old Mentonians triumphed over Kew to the tune of 52 points at Keysborough Playing Fields. With just two points in it at quarter time, the Panthers exploded for eight goals in the second term as they established an insurmountable lead. Jack Davis (five) and Luke Hull (four) did the bulk of the damage in front of goal and 2016 Pepper Medallist Daniel Maitland was at his dominant best. Daniel Boehm was best afield for the Bears alongside four-goal hauls from Andrew Brazzale and Rob Maibaum. Kew early-season woes continue as they sit at the bottom of the ladder with a percentage of just 38.66.

Marcellin climbed to third spot on the Premier C ladder following a 46-point victory against Hampton Rovers at Marcellin College. A six-goal to one second term gave the Eagles the ascendancy at the half of which they did not give up as the match wore on despite going goalless in the third. Robert Costanzo (four) led the charge in front of goal and Daniel Mc Mahon (three) was outstanding in a best-on-ground performance. Luke Deville was the best Rover who sit eighth on the ladder.
