Eagles end OGs’ run, Hoers secure points over Panthers

Williamstown CYMS made it three wins from their past four matches as they accounted for Hampton Rovers to the tune of 62 points at Burbank Oval. A dominant 10-goal to two first half gave the CY’s a 49-point lead of which the Rovers could not rein in despite a three-goal third term. Mitch Parkinson (four) and Ben Deller (four) combined for eight goals for the fifth-placed CY’s, while Ryan Fogarty impressed for the Rovers. They sit seventh on the ladder on two wins.

Marcellin ended Old Geelong’s two-game winning streak and ran out 24-point victors at Como Park. Led by a seven-goal haul from Daniel McMahon, the Eagles pounced to an early 16-point first half lead. Ogs fought back and trailed by just three points at the last break before the Eagles accelerated and piled on four unanswered in the fourth. Jackson Green and Lachlan Rush kicked three each alongside McMahon, while Jock Grimshaw (five) and Callum Wood (four) nailed nine between them for the losing side. The Ogs sit sixth while the Eagles worked their way to third on the Premier C ladder.

Old Ivanhoe secured a much-needed win and inflicted Old Mentonians with their second straight loss, defeating the Panthers by 35 points at Chelsworth Park. Trailing by six points at half time, the Hoers got going with five unanswered in the third term and eight of the last nine goals of the match. Sam Gelings continued his standout season with a best-on-ground display for the Hoers and Michael Del Monte top-scored with three majors. Darcy Brown (one) and Jack Davis (two) led the way for the Panthers who now fall to fourth spot on the ladder after a promising start to the year.

Old Haileybury were far too strong for Old Camberwell over the weekend as they romped to a 123-point victory at Gordon Barnard Reserve. The Bloods had 36 scoring shots to eight as they dominated every possession, with Nathan Waite booting six goals and taking his season tally to 18. Corey Connelly chipped in with four and Peter Shakallis starred in a BOG performance. Fraser Wells and Simon Bennett kicked the only two goals for the Wellers, who find themselves ninth on the ladder with two wins and a percentage of 66.67.

A combined 10 goals from Nicholas Baltas (five) and Tom Green (five) helped Caulfield Grammarians to a 58-point win against a valiant Kew outfit at Victoria Park. After an even first term, the Fields kicked away in the second with five goals to one and, despite kicking two less than the Bears in the third, rarely looked threatened from that point. Andre Lister completed his second straight standout display and was named BOG for the Fields, while Rob Maibaum (two) and Tim Orchard (one) fought hard for the 0-5 Bears.
